Riverfront Playhouse Presents — Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
A drama adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher from the novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Directed by Lauren Stanfield
This clever and unique adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic delves more deeply into the psychological implications of splitting the human psyche from itself. This story is told with some actors playing multiple parts as well as multiple actors playing the same part to explore the nature of Hyde within all of us. There is no one Hyde just as there is no one single aspect to any of us. We are all a complex sum of all our experiences and pieces. Director Lauren Stanfield takes this unique perspective on the story and applies a strong vision all her own. She says, “This story has remained a classic for as long as it has, because you can still interpret it so many different ways. It’s adapted for a modern age, challenging the idea of the duality of man by saying the mind and a person are actually made of many parts. The playwright uses this opportunity to almost debate with Stevenson himself within the play”. You will not want to miss this worthy addition to spooky season featuring the acting talents of Sean Sampson, Erinn Brennan, Keith Rose, Samantha Robinson, Leila Walstead, Jessica Wuerth, Madilyn Miller, and Alex Clayton as the good Doctor himself.
